Dean & Son Ltd didn't seem to have an overarching name for this series of illustrated numbered classics published in the 1970s, so I've used a descriptive title, "Dean's Illustrated Classics".
The 18 books in the series were numbered, and No. 5 and No. 8 are somewhat out of sync with the rest, No. 5 (Hansel and Gretel) being a retold fairytale rather than novel, although it does give a source (Grimm), while No. 8 (Robin Hood and his Merrie Men) gives no source for this familiar tale.

| Series list, from the back cover of No. 18 Swiss Family Robinson |
There are a few books I haven't yet been able to find out all the details about, but (based on the information I have) most of the books in the series are retold and illustrated by Georgina Hargreaves (13), but some are retold by David York (1), Jonathan Trant (1), or Roger Dunlop (1), and illustrated by John Leeder (4).
If anyone can shed any light on the missing details, please comment below.
